Mercedes 'welcome back' Hamilton in social media post

Mercedes have offered the clearest indication yet that Lewis Hamilton will be back at the wheel for the 2022 F1 season.

Lewis Hamilton has been welcomed back by his Mercedes team in a special social media post following a near two-month period of silence. Hamilton's social media channels fell silent after he lost out on the 2021 F1 title to Max Verstappen in controversial circumstances, with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff previously describing his driver as "disillusioned" by the events. However, Hamilton emerged from his radio silence on Saturday and has since shared a further update ahead of the new season.

Mercedes say 'welcome back' to Hamilton

In the latest development, Mercedes posted a graphic on Monday afternoon featuring Hamilton in his racing suit and holding his helmet, while standing in front of a wall of supportive messages. The messages are from fellow sports stars, celebrities and fans, along with Mercedes' caption of 'welcome back'. Hamilton has made no further comments about his plans for 2022, but holds a contract with Mercedes through 2023.
