Mercedes W14 not compromised by 2024 car development

The squad is shifting focus to their 2024 challenger, but insist their current car will not be impacted by the switch.

Mercedes Technology Director Mike Elliott has insisted that the development of the W14 has not been compromised by switching focus to their 2024 car. The team is devoting much of its focus to next years challenger, which they claim will be a "fundamental" overhaul of their current package. Team Principal Toto Wolff revealed the squad has done a thorough analysis of their cash flow to ensure they do not overspend in the cost cap era. Now they are using the second half of the 2023 season to understand components, while also maintaining second in the Constructors Championship as they battle with Aston Martin and Ferrari.

Elliott: We want to be winning World Championships

"Fundamentally we want to be winning World Championships, I think that's our prime focus and we'll put our efforts into doing that," Elliott told media, including RacingNews365 . "When you look at trying to develop a brand new car, when you're making architectural changes, it's hard to sort of keep that pace in the tunnel. "So, in actual fact, some of the running we're doing for this year's car is just helpful learning on the track without really hindering next years car."
