Mercedes shake off reliability rumours by completing shakedown

Mercedes have officially completed the shakedown of their new car, the W14, ahead of 2023 preseason testing.

Mercedes have officially completed their shakedown session to complete a key milestone ahead of F1 preseason testing. Following some earlier power unit reliability rumours - which Mercedes denied - the W14 took to a wet Silverstone circuit to complete a filming day. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton completed the full 100km of running of the shorter Silverstone 'National' circuit, with both drivers being equipped with wet tyres for much of the practice outing.

"It has been great to get up and running with the W14. It is always a much-anticipated moment for everyone at the factory that has been working so hard; I’m incredibly grateful for all the effort that has gone in," commented Hamilton. "The day has been smooth; we got through a good programme, and we’ve come away with some useful findings. I generally felt comfortable in the car and I’m excited to get going in Bahrain." Preseason testing at the Bahrain International Circuit gets underway on 23rd February, and will run for three days.
