Mercedes and Venturi not allowed in Formula E qualifying

Edoardo Mortara's accident at the end of free practice has caused problems for both Mercedes and Venturi Racing as neither team will take part in Formula E qualifying on Saturday.

Tough luck for Friday's race winner Nyck de Vries and his Mercedes team as the German outfit, along with Venturi Racing, have been held out of qualifying for the Diriyah E-Prix as the FIA investigates Edoardo Mortara's accident. The Swiss-Italian driver crashed hard into the wall during the third free practice session at high speed after a car failure. Mortara was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for assessment and he is conscious and talking. Given that Venturi Racing are a powertrain customer of Mercedes, the FIA have prevented both teams from taking part in qualifying until the accident is fully investigated.
