Rear wings in Formula 1 have been a major talking point across the opening rounds of the season, with the FIA having hoped that it had put an end to the "mini DRS effect".

Motorsport's governing body introduced stricter rear wing tests ahead of the campaign; however, was forced into introducing a further, stricter technical directive.

In the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, the size of the rear wing opening was set at 2 millimetres.

Due to teams having still gained an advantage, a technical directive was introduced in China, further reducing the rear wing opening to just 0.5 millimetres, with a 0.25 millimetre discrepancy due to the short timing of the directive.

This discrepancy was axed in Japan, yet some teams continued to catch attention for the movement of its rear wing.

It was confirmed by the FIA that four or five teams had to make rear wing adjustments to pass the tests, with Haas and Alpine having revealed that it was two of the outfits in question.

McLaren's name was also mentioned, although it remains unclear if the Woking-based team was forced into changes.

Its car is legal, with both Lando Norris' and Oscar Piastri's cars having passed technical inspections. Despite this, images from Suzuka appear to show continued flexing of its rear wing.

When the MCL39's rear wing is pushed down at high speed, it 'flexes' back into its normal shape at low speed. It is visibly less than the rear wing on Red Bull's RB21.
