McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has explained how Oscar Piastri has lifted his side of the garage since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. Piastri has managed to impress early on in his rookie Formula 1 season by coming close to a podium during the British Grand Prix, following it up with a top five in Hungary and a Sprint race podium in Belgium. When asked about how the Australian has impacted his side of the garage since joining, Stella told media, including RacingNews365 : "Well that side of the garage, they kept working in the way with the best practice, with the attention that they’ve had in the previous years. "But definitely, it's important from an engineering point of view that you learn as much as possible, having worked with different drivers, having gone through highs and lows."
A lot of self-criticism
Stella pointed out the introspective that has gone on at McLaren since its poor start to the season, which is enabling it to learn from mistakes for the future. "What's important in this sport is that every day you are better than yesterday," said Stella. "So, even in terms of the engineering that supported Daniel and now is supporting Oscar, there's definitely been quite a lot of learning and self-criticism. "[This] is the way that you actually cash in the learning from experience."
