Max Verstappen highlighted his bemusement at McLaren's decision to swap their drivers around following a slow pit stop for Lando Norris.
McLaren opted to leave it late to bring both of their drivers into the pit lane, with Piastri being serviced first after Norris was content to continue.
Piastri's tyres were changed in a very rapid 1.9-second pit stop, but a wheel gun issue for Norris the next time around resulted in a near six-second pit stop for the Briton.
The problem allowed Piastri to jump Norris, having trailed his championship rival for the entirety of the race up to that point.
McLaren ordered Piastri to let Norris back through for position, citing Hungary last year when Piastri was handed the lead by Norris after the former performed an undercut.
Race-winner Max Verstappen was informed about the decision while he was circling in the lead in conversation with race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.
Lambiase: “Norris and Piastri have swapped places, Max.”
Verstappen: “Ha! Just because he had a slow stop?”
Lambiase: “It's not our business, but I guess it keeps it fair between the drivers in terms of the championship. You focus on the road ahead as well, please.”
Verstappen went on to take the chequered flag in first place, marking his third win of the campaign.
