Max Verstappen has stated that paying attention to detail in the final rounds of the ongoing season will make the difference in the F1 title fight.

The Dutchman has slashed into Oscar Piastri's championship lead across the last four events, cutting his 104-point advantage to just 40.

Just five rounds remain in the campaign as Verstappen aims to complete a sensational comeback and grab his fifth career title.

However, the 28-year-old acknowledged that Red Bull will need to be flawless until the end of the season in order to produce the title upset.

“I know that we need to be perfect until the end to have a chance, so that’s what we just need to focus on,” Verstappen told media including RacingNews365.

“Like I said before, it's super close, and just attention to detail will make the difference.

“Trying to get the best set-up on the car every weekend and then try not to make mistakes.

“So that's what we'll try to do.”

Verstappen dominated the US Grand Prix on Sunday en route to his fifth win of the season.

He crossed the line ahead of Lando Norris, who was held back for much of the race by Charles Leclerc in a tight battle for second place after the Ferrari driver moved in front on the opening lap.

When asked how different the race would have been if Norris had retained position on the first lap, Verstappen replied: “I think then it would be a very close race.

“Every time I think that Lando was in clean air, we were very evenly matched. Maybe at times, he was a bit faster as well.

“It wouldn't have been the gap that it was at the end.”
