Helmut Marko has hailed Max Verstappen as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time after his record-equalling victory at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Verstappen emerged victorious from a chaotic dry-wet-dry-wet race that featured a lengthy red flag for rain in front of his home crowd at Zandvoort.

The win was the runaway championship leader's third from three races in his home event and equalled the 2013 record of Sebastian Vettel of nine straight wins.

Verstappen now leads teammate Sergio Perez by 138 points in the quest for a third-straight Drivers' title.

Marko gushing

"I don't what could be done better," Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Marko told Viaplay.

"This was unprecedented, it doesn't matter if it is wet or dry, he 'reads' the race, takes care of his tyres and remains so very calm.

"That is impressive with so much emotion (at his home race), he is under so much pressure.

"All periods in the sport are different, but Max is exceptional. He is undoubtedly one of the top drivers of all time."

"The competition is getting stronger and stronger.

"We mustn't forget that there are 22 races this year and that means a lot of simulator work as well.

"That demands a lot from the drivers, but this is also its advantage: Formula 1 is his life. The rest just happens. Maybe that's what makes him so strong."
