Marko points towards Vettel as successor

Could Sebastian Vettel return to Red Bull as a talent scout? Helmut Marko believes this could be a suitable role for his former pupil.

It was an emotional end to Sebastian Vettel's career in Abu Dhabi, as he hung up his helmet after 15 years of competing in Formula 1. But could the German make a return to former team Red Bull in the future? Red Bull Advisor Helmut Marko, who is responsible for scouting upcoming talent, believes Vettel could take on his role. "It is not excluded that Vettel will return to a position in management. I am almost eighty, so that would be something!" he said when speaking to Sky Germany .

Marko discussed role with Vettel

Marko revealed that he has discussed the role with Vettel in a conversation about the German's future beyond racing. "We discussed it and I think such a position would appeal to him. "That came up in that conversation between us. I am convinced that the potential and the personality are there," he said jokingly. "But now we let him plant some trees and then we'll see what happens."

Horner: Vettel annoyingly 'good at everything'

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner, who worked alongside Vettel during his tenure at the team between 2009 and 2014, believes he is good at "assessing people" and knows what is needed to be successful. He added: "He's one of those people who is irritatingly good at everything he or she does. If he wants to go in that direction, I'm sure he would be very good at it. "He is very good at assessing people and understands what everyone can contribute to success. It is now up to him to choose what he will do."
