Helmut Marko has praised Red Bull's Chief Strategy Engineer Hannah Schmitz for the quick thinking that helped Sergio Perez to win the Monaco Grand Prix. The wet-to-dry Monaco Grand Prix was won by the Mexcian after a successful pit strategy put him ahead of both Ferrari drivers. Perez was the first of the front-runners to pit for Intermediate tyres in the early stages of the race, a move which placed him ahead of Charles Leclerc and directly behind Carlos Sainz. With drivers gradually switching to slicks, the Red Bull duo of Perez and Max Verstappen pitted a lap before the Ferraris. This enabled Perez to get ahead of Sainz, and for Verstappen to overtake Leclerc when the the Scuderia's drivers made their stops.
Marko hails "right decision" from team member
Speaking after the race, Marko credited Schmitz for the strategy calls that put Red Bull in a winning position. "I'm proud of the entire team, but especially of our chief strategist, Hannah," Marko told Austrian media outlet ORF . "Of course, she also got a lot of information from Milton Keynes, but she kept calm and waited for the right decision. "This not only enabled us to win, but also put Max ahead of Leclerc."
