Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford acknowledges praise from F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton after being included in Time Magazine's Next 100 Most Influential People list. Rashford, who plays for Manchester United, campaigned against the abolition of the free school meals scheme during the coronavirus lockdown, going as far as to provide food for the children in Manchester who missed out on the plan during the enforced lockdown. The reigning F1 world champion, who himself gained notice for his social justice and racial equality campaigns, commended the British footballer's initiative. "I know what it feels like to be hungry," Hamilton said in June 2020. "By standing up for the most vulnerable in our society, and using his platform and influence to create positive change, Marcus inspired countless others to join him on this mission and cemented his status as a role model. "In a year that showed us the power of working together toward a common goal, he was a galvanizing force behind uniting people across the U.K. in the effort to ensure that no child goes hungry. "His determination, resilience and persistence have been truly inspiring. I cannot wait to see how he continues this important work." In a Tweet, Rashford thanked the Mercedes driver for his kind words. The tweet can be viewed below.
