Major Dutch talent confirmed for Formula E debut

A hot talent in the world of single-seater racing is set for his Formula E debut next weekend in Madrid.

Rising Dutch talent Richard Verschoor has been confirmed as one of Lola's drivers for next Sunday's Formula E rookie test at Jarama, following the Madrid E-Prix.

It will mark the six-time Formula 2 race winner's debut in the all-electric category, with him set to partner Lola's simulator and test driver, Hugh Barter.

Verschoor was a major title contender in F2 last season and went on to finish third in the championship with MP Motorsport, but has left the single-seater series for 2026.

This year, the 25-year-old has switched to prototypes and is competing for Duqueine Team in the European Le Mans Series. He has been linked to previous Formula E tests, yet they never materialised.

In addition, Verschoor joined the McLaren driver development programme last winter and is supporting its Hypercar project.

Given Verschoor's F2 experience, it would not be a surprise if he were to be considered a contender for a future Gen4 seat.

"I’m excited to be joining Lola Yamaha ABT for the Rookie Test in Madrid," said Verschoor. "Driving the T001 will be my first outing in a Formula E car. I’m eager to learn and push forward together with the team."

For Lola team principal Mark Preston, he is eager to see Verschoor's input to the team in the test, describing him as a "promising driver".

"We are very pleased to have Richard join us for the Rookie Test in Madrid," said Preston. "He is a fast, knowledgeable and promising driver who we are sure will be a great asset to the team over the weekend."

So far for the Madrid rookie test, Porsche has confirmed it will again run Ayhancan Güven and Elia Weiss, while Envision has so far only announced Ella Lloyd.
