Magnussen reveals stunning 'saved my life' background to new BMW venture

Kevin Magnussen has explained how the boss of BMW's WRT WEC team, Vincent Vosse, once saved his life

Kevin Magnussen has shared that the owner of BMW's WRT WEC team, Vincent Vosse, once saved his life when he fell in a swimming pool as a child. It has recently been confirmed that the outgoing Haas driver will compete for the German marque in LMDh, the highest category in endurance racing, in 2025. BMW operates hypercars in both IMSA and WEC, but the specifics of Magnussen's racing schedule for the year have yet to be confirmed. The Danish driver had been unlikely to race in F1 next season since Haas announced Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon would drive for the team, but he may still continue working with the American squad in some capacity. With that situation apparent for some time, Magnussen was asked how long he had been talking to BMW, upon confirmation of the move. At which point the 32-year-old explained that Vosse had had a profound impact on not only his motorsport career, but his life altogether. "Well, I've been talking to Vincent Vosse, who is the team owner at WRT, which is the team that runs the BMW WEC team," Magnussen told media including RacingNews365 . "I've known him since I was a little kid. He once saved my life when I was two years old in the swimming pool at his house at Spa. "I jumped in the pool, I couldn't swim. He was in a suit, dressed up for some gala thing that he was going to and he jumped in the pool, so ruined his day, but hopefully I can make up for that now. So the contact has kind of always been there."
