Kevin Magnussen has hit out at F1 stewards after earning enough penalty points to trigger a race ban in the Italian Grand Prix.
Magnussen was handed a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points on his super licence for causing a collision with Pierre Gasly at Turn 4 - although both were able to continue.
The Haas racer went onto finish 10th to score his first points since Austria once it had been applied, but the stewards awarded Magnussen two penalty points.
This takes him to 12 for the 12 month period, with the next set due to come off at the 2025 Saudi Arabian GP - making him the first driver to reach the mark since the system was introduced in 2014.
If Magnussen is banned, he will be benched for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but the Dane, who is set to leave F1 at the end of the season, hit out at the stewards, given an incident involving team-mate Nico Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo.
"I am frustrated about the penalty, I don't understand it at all, I am completely confused," he told media including RacingNews365.
"Me and Gasly were racing hard into Turn 4, we had slight contact and both missed the corner, came back on track again and there was no damage to either car, so no consequence to the race of either of us.
"And I get a 10-second time penalty, but on Lap 1, where Ricciardo put Nico onto the grass at 300kph, he completely destroyed Nico's race and it has massive consequences and damage to Nico's car and he gets a five-second time penalty.
"Where is the logic, I just don't get it, but I will come back in Singapore with 0 [penalty] points.
"I only know that I got the two points from you, I haven't heard it officially yet, but I am not going to hold back, it doesn't make sense, but I scored a point.
"I will take one point and two penalty points."
Ricciardo was handed a five-second time penalty and earned one penalty point, but served a further 10-second one after the initial five seconds was not served correctly as a team member touched the car.

Stewards Magnussen verdict in full
The Stewards reviewed video and in-car video evidence.
On the approach to Turn 4, Car 20 attempted to overtake Car 10 on the inside. Whilst Car 20 had its front axle past the mirror of Car 10, the Driving Standards
Guidelines specify that an overtaking car has to “be driven in a safe and controlled manner throughout the manoeuvre”. The Stewards determined that this was not the case for Car 20 and hence the driver was wholly to blame for the collision and hence the standard penalty and penalty points are allocated.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented.
