Kevin Magnussen's hopes of winning the 2025 Daytona 24 Hours have gone up in smoke, due to damage to his team's #24 BMW.
Magnussen had gotten the #24 crew into victory contention; however, an issue which started several hours ago worsened as Dries Vanthoor got behind the wheel.
The #24 BMW was seen porpoising at high-speed and was visibly very difficult to slow down, resulting in Vanthoor making contact with the lead #6 Porsche Penske with just 35 minutes remaining.
Due to the damage, Vanthoor was forced to pit for repairs, with significant smoke having blown into the air caused by the front left tyre and front bodywork rubbing.
As a result of pitting, the #24 crew fell multiple laps behind and tumbled down the GTP class order.
At the front, just two seconds split the top three, the #6 Porsche Penske, #7 Porsche Penske and the #60 Acura.
UPDATE: The #24 car finished the race in fourth.
