Kevin Magnussen has suggested the rules regarding the issuing of penalty points should be changed as he nears a race ban.
The Dane currently has 10 penalty points to his name with the recent Miami Grand Prix seeing him add five points to his super licence.
Magnussen was involved in a rugged battle with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton during the sprint race and ran off the circuit on several occasions before coming together with Logan Sargeant during the grand prix.
Any driver who is handed 12 points in a 12 month period is automatically banned from the next race.
No driver has yet reached the race-banning figure since its introduction in 2014, with Magnussen irked by the nature of some of his punishments.
“The fact that I'm at risk of a race ban for driving outside of some white lines on a piece of Tarmac, I don't know if I feel that is right,” Magnussen told media including RacingNews365.
“But it is the way the rules are so I accept that. I feel there is room for improvement there.
“Not only in terms of the points you know, there are more races now than there were back when they were introduced.
“You can end up getting a race ban effectively for a very minor thing. So that's what I feel.”

Magnussen to change racing style
Magnussen has asserted his defensive tactics in Miami were to assist team-mate Nico Hulkenberg's quest for points - a claim the German has dismissed.
The 31-year-old has conceded he will be forced to adjust his driving style to avoid being sidelined later this season.
“The next time is a race ban so I think I'll have to [change my style],” Magnussen said.
“These situations where I've had to play the support role for my team-mate, they have been paying off, it’s been kind of valuable to us.
“I don't love the way the rules are, that it's possible [to be banned]. I would love it to not be possible at all.
“But the rules are as they are and I didn't make the rules. So I think there's stuff to be looked at there.
“For myself, I’m on 10 points. So I’ll have to be careful not to get a race ban.”
