Liam Lawson sets clear target for remainder of F1 season

Liam Lawson has set the straightforward goal of adding more championship points to his yearly tally in the second half of the campaign.

The New Zealander has enjoyed a boost in form of late, bagging three point-scoring results at the last four grands prix.

This run included a career-best sixth place at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Lawson's uptick in form follows a difficult opening phase of the season when he was dropped by Red Bull after the first two rounds.

After returning to the sister Racing Bulls team, Lawson didn't secure his first points of the year until the eighth round at Monaco.

Lawson suggested the lack of point-scoring results up to that point emerged from being unable to extract pace during qualifying.

“I wouldn’t sit here and say the performance hasn’t been there because of the tracks,” Lawson told media including RacingNews365.

“The speed has been very, very good. It’s just unlocking it in qualifying a lot of the time.

“So I don’t think that changes too much. Maybe I’ll have time to reflect and regroup.”

Lawson currently has 20 points to his name, leaving him 15th in the drivers' championship.

When asked for his goal in the second half of the season, Lawson stated: “Scoring more points, honestly.

“There’s no exact position we’re targeting.

“In our position, it’s just being in the points consistently - that’s what really has been lacking. So having consistent point finishes is the target.”
