Liam Lawson has declared himself prepared for more "trying to survive" moments in F1 after his first-lap elimination at Silverstone on Sunday.
After deciding against pitting at the end of the British GP formation lap for slick tyres, New Zealander Lawson was taken out after major contact with Esteban Ocon's Haas.
The retirement capped off a difficult first half of the season for Lawson, who felt that the wet conditions in the race could have aided a charge to the points for his Racing Bulls team.
Reflecting on the weekend, Lawson felt more 'survival' moments would be expected in the second half of the campaign.
"We were talking about [switching to slicks] and I nearly made the same decision," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.
"But the last sector was still very wet, and it was taking a while for the track to dry.
"So I think we made the right call, but we would have had a fast car in these conditions.
"It suited what we were running, so I was just trying to survive [on the first lap].
"I wasn't doing anything aggressive, but it is motorsport, it is Formula 1.
"I've been through it many times, and I'm sure I'll go through it many more times, but it is part of racing."
