Liam Lawson has expressed his major surprise at being featured in the new F1 film starring Brad Pitt.

Drivers, their partners and team bosses were treated to a private screening of the film ahead of the Monaco GP after production over a number of grands prix over multiple seasons.

Lawson only made his debut in F1 in mid-2023 and missed most of 2024 until replacing Daniel Ricciardo at the 2024 United States GP, thus limiting his potential to be seen in the final cut.

However, the Kiwi has expressed pleasant surprise at how much he features.

"It was cool, it is very immersive of the feeling of being in F1, and it is a really, really cool storyline," Lawson told media when asked by RacingNews365 if it lived up to his expectations.

"I wasn't really racing in Formula 1 too much when most of the driving stuff was being captured, so I was surprised to be featured, but I didn't know what to expect.

"We've had a documentary with Drive to Survive, and then there's a movie, and obviously you'd expect a movie to be more Hollywood, but it was cool for people who aren't involved in the sport, or don't watch it.

"I can imagine somebody watching the sport for the first time will think it is amazing.

"You can always find holes and poke holes at things, but it is a movie at the end of the day.

"It is the same as if you are watching Top Gun, I'm sure if you are a fighter pilot and watching a movie like that, you're going to pick things in there that you might see differently.

"But it is incredible, and that's what most people are going to see when they watch the movie."
