Liam Lawson was caught off guard at Max Verstappen's rare spin during the British Grand Prix, claiming he had never seen "Max spin a car."

Lawson retired on the first lap after being clipped by Esteban Ocon coming onto the Wellington Straight, and was conducting his round of interviews with the written media in the pen just as the safety car came in.

Fielding a question about the potential competitiveness of the package in Belgium and Hungary, Lawson was caught off guard by Verstappen's spin.

"I think so, it is very close at the moment, and quite often," he began to tell media, including RacingNews365, just as Verstappen spun.

"I have never seen that in my life," was Lawson's initial reaction.

"I have never, ever seen Max spin a car, but he saved it, technically, he saved it."

Lawson rounded out his impromptu analysis by adding that Verstappen "would still probably come through and win", although he only managed fifth after a strong comeback in the drying conditions.
