Leclerc reveals Ferrari motivation after witnessing opening-day Hamilton hype

Charles Leclerc watched on as Lewis Hamilton made his Ferrari debut on Wednesday morning, before getting into the cockpit himself for several laps at Fiorano.

Charles Leclerc has revealed that the hype around Ferrari caused by Lewis Hamilton's arrival is "motivating" for the 27-year-old, following a day of testing at its Fiorano Circuit.

Hamilton completed 30 laps in Ferrari's 2023 SF-23 in foggy conditions on Wednesday morning, before Leclerc got into the cockpit for 14 laps during a very wet afternoon.

It meant 44 laps were completed between the new team-mates, a nod to the seven-time world champion's race number.

For Leclerc, it was a chance to see 2,000 fans and settle back into driving following the festive period.

"The first day back in the car is always a great feeling after the holidays," said Leclerc. "It’s good to be back on track, to see that so many fans came out to watch us.

"Feeling all this excitement surrounding the team is very motivating. It was a good day, even though it was raining a little bit when I was driving."

With the arrival of Hamilton, Leclerc can sense a real buzz amongst the Maranello-based outfit.

Wednesday's TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) was very much about Hamilton, something the Monegasque did not appear to mind.

Leclerc greeted the Tifosi, as did his seven-time world champion team-mate, following his small run in the car.

He is ready to direct full focus on the upcoming season, but recognises the importance of Hamilton's debut.

"Of course it was nice to be able to see Lewis driving his first laps in a Ferrari, which was a special moment for the team and for him," noted Leclerc.

"Now I’m looking forward to being back in the car next week and to really start working hard for the coming season."
