Charles Leclerc has stated Max Verstappen's unyielding defensive driving tactics is what “makes F1 exciting”.

Verstappen has long been known to be ruthless in his defence of a position, which was evident once last weekend at the US Grand Prix.

The Dutchman forced rival Lando Norris wide on a couple of occasions during the race as they battled toward the front of the F1 grid.

It once again sparked the debate of what is deemed fair racing - however Leclerc asserted Verstappen's manoeuvres make the sport thrilling.

“Max has always been on the limit of regulations, but that's what makes racing Max so exciting and that’s why I really like having those fights with him,” Leclerc told media including RacingNews365.

“You know that he will never leave any room and it will be always at the limit of the regulations. And that's what makes those fights very exciting.

“Sometimes it goes a little bit over, but that's what makes F1 exciting.”

Leclerc reveals racing rules under discussion

Leclerc stated combat rules and time penalties will be under discussion when the drivers have their briefing in Mexico City this weekend.

“I feel like there are a few things maybe in Austin that I have seen that we have to discuss with the FIA,” Leclerc highlighted.

“I felt like the penalties were sometimes a little bit too harsh. We've got to make sure that we are all aligned, the FIA and us drivers in order to make sure it's clear what we can and can’t do.

“It's more about the Oscar [Piastri] overtake on the Saturday which didn’t really deserve a penalty.

“But this is an ongoing process that we always try to optimise with the FIA, and it's a discussion that will have, I'm sure, during this briefing.”
