Liam Lawson has offered an honest assessment of his struggles at Red Bull, and believes it is "fair" to say the Racing Bulls is an easier car to drive.
Lawson was demoted back to Racing Bulls after just two races in the senior Red Bull team, where he failed to score a point in either Australia or China, both tracks he had never driven on before.
The RB21 is a tricky car to drive, with even four-time world champion Max Verstappen struggling to extract maximum performance from the car, as the Racing Bulls machine has been described as a more user-friendly package.
It is something Kiwi Lawson agreed with as he also reflected on a "crazy" couple of weeks with the Red Bull demotion and start to the season.
"It is probably a fair thing to say," Lawson observed when asked by media including RacingNews365 if it was true that the Racing Bulls was a more benign car to drive than the RB21.
"It definitely has a bigger window and is easier to drive, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Red Bull is hard to drive, it just maybe takes a bit more time to get to that sort of comfort.
"Honestly [the Racing Bulls] is not crazy different from last year, and so it has just been more of an adjustment back from what I've been driving at the start of this year.
"It is quite different, but I feel good.”
As he looks to make a strong impression back at Racing Bulls, Lawson highlighted the importance of marginal improvements with the field spread being so close.
“We didn't show what we were capable of [in Japan], and just missed out in qualifying, but in general, I felt pretty comfortable,” he said.
"The approach of the concept of any car you drive is the same, and it just responds in a different way.
"The gaps in Formula 1 are so small that just any little improvement can make such a difference, but right now, the car is in a good window.
"I am happy to be racing, the best thing about all of this is after a crazy couple of weeks and months, a lot of which has not been enjoyable, is the fact that I'm racing each weekend, which is the best thing for me because it means I can just focus on driving."
