Liam Lawson has outlined his excitement after being called up to join Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2025, and believes the four-time F1 champion will be pivotal to his learning within the team.
Red Bull confirmed on Wednesday it had parted ways with Sergio Perez after four seasons.
Team principal Christian Horner confirmed the two candidates to replace the Mexican were Lawson and RB team-mate Yuki Tsunoda, who has spent the last four seasons at the sister squad.
Despite having just 11 grand prix starts under his belt, Lawson has been picked by Red Bull to partner Verstappen at the championship-winning outfit next year, despite Tsunoda's four years of experience.
“To be announced as a Red Bull Racing driver is a lifelong dream for me, this is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old,” Lawson said.
“It’s been an incredible journey so far. I want to say a massive thank you to the whole team at VCARB for their support, the last six races have played a huge part in my preparation for this next step.
“I also want to thank, Christian, Helmut [Marko] and the whole Red Bull family for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.
“I am super excited to work alongside Max and learn from a world champion. I have no doubt I will learn from his expertise. I can’t wait to get going!”
Lawson made his F1 debut midway through the 2023 season, replacing an injured Daniel Ricciardo for five rounds.
The 22-year-old stepped back into the cockpit again this year to replace Ricciardo until the end of the season, scoring two top-10 finishes in six races.
