The Las Vegas Grand Prix has been extended for a further two seasons, keeping the race in Sin City on the F1 calendar until at least the 2027 campaign.

The short re-upping of the deal is a departure from the recent norm, which has seen F1 venues handed considerable contracts, such as the Miami Grand Prix, which will remain on the schedule until 2041.

The 2026 F1 calendar was released earlier in the week with the Las Vegas Grand Prix included despite it having not yet been announced an extension had been struck.

However, F1 chief commercial officer Emily Prazer has since confirmed a short-term deal had been reached.

"We’ve agreed collectively that we’re going to do a two-year extension for 2026 and ’27," said Prazer.

"We want to make sure that we’re continuing to evolve what we’re doing. But the intent is a much longer-term arrangement.

"As we all know, the race has had its challenges, but we’re coming out the other side. So we want to make sure that it continues to work for both sides.

"So collectively, we sat down and agreed that was the best approach. We’re very much planning longer-term, but that’s kind of where we’re at right now."

Further explaining the stop-gap nature of the agreement, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Steve Hill expanding on the approach.

"The length of extensions don’t really reflect anything other than it just makes sense incrementally, we know what’s going to happen over the next couple of years," he said.

"We’re planning on this being a permanent race, we’ll just keep planning extensions that will probably expand as we go forward."
