Lando Norris conceded after his painful Dutch Grand Prix retirement that all he wanted was "a burger and to go home".
Norris was poised to net a sure-fire second position behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri at Zandvoort when his McLaren suffered what appeared to be a Mercedes power unit issue with seven laps remaining, forcing him into immediate retirement.
From a position of being a likely 16 points behind Piastri going into next weekend's Italian Grand Prix, Norris now finds himself 34 points adrift, a significant gap given the identical performance of the two cars.
Trying to find the positives from his weekend, speaking to Sky Sports F1, Norris said: "The pace is there. I was quick, but it's impossible to overtake.
"[It was] A good race, and all I was really hoping for was to please stay within five seconds for most of the race. I was happy that I could stay within one and a half, two, for the majority.
"It doesn't look it, but that's an impressive race around here from our side, with how much dirty air, and you struggle with the tyres and tyre temperatures when following.
"It was a positive race, but it doesn't mean anything. I couldn't get past. Oscar drove a good race, and he deserved.
"Just on my weekend, unlucky yesterday, with the fight for pole. Unlucky today. That's life, so that's why I just take it on the chin and move on."
The question now is how Norris will respond to such a major setback.
"We will wait and see." he remarked. "It's frustrating, it hurts, and to lose 25 points outright, 18 for second place, and only a seven-point deficit.
"I just have to keep fighting. Keep doing what I can. I was quick today. I thought I could fight for a win.
"If you're fighting for a win around here, that's normally just a good job, so I take the positives. I look on, I'll try to bounce back.
"I've got tough competition, so it's never going to be easy, but I'll really make sure I do everything I can."
As to what was in his head, he replied: "Not much. I just want a burger and to go home."
