Lando Norris claimed he was "dead" following the effort put in to defend against team-mate Oscar Piastri and win the Hungarian Grand Prix.
After a slow start, Norris changed to the one-stop strategy, pitting for the only time on lap 31, whereas Piastri was on the more conventional two-stopper, pitting for the final time on lap 46.
Piastri quickly dispatched Charles Leclerc to run second, giving him 19 laps to chase down 8.9s on far fresher tyres than the Briton, but the Australian fell 0.6s short at the flag.
The victory is McLaren's 200th grand prix victory, only the second team to reach that landmark, as Norris cut Piastri's points lead to nine heading into the summer break.
Reflecting on his ninth career win, Norris explained how he was "dead."
"I'm dead, I'm dead," Norris began when asked for his reflections on the race.
"It was tough, we weren't really planning on the one-stop but after the first lap, it was our only option to get back into things.
"The final stint with Oscar catching, I was pushing flat out and my voice has gone a little bit, but it is pretty good and rewarding because of that. It was the perfect result.
"I didn't think we'd win, I thought maybe we'd get into at least second, I knew the pace was good even behind George, but I couldn't get past.
"I knew with some clean air, I could push and make things work, and that's what we did. It is always a bit of a gamble, these things as they require no mistakes and good laps, and that's what we had today.
"It is so tight the momentum is not on anyone's side, but we are fighting hard, it is fun racing with Oscar, and great to have our 200th win, so credit to Oscar, he put up a good charge and I just about held on, so I look forward to plenty more of these."
