Kimi Antonelli has been handed a 10-second time penalty by the FIA stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix for causing a collision on the opening lap of the sprint.
The Mercedes driver was on the inside of Isack Hadjar through Turn 6 at the Shanghai International Circuit when the two cars touched, pushing the Red Bull wide.
Antonelli had a poor start, so he fell down the order, which is what left him fighting for the same tarmac as the Frenchman, who launched from P10.
The young Italian is currently P3, and the Red Bull driver is down in P8.
Max Verstappen in the sister Red Bull endured a difficult opening few laps and is currently P13. George Russell, meanwhile, leads from pole.
It is expected that Antonelli will also receive two penalty points on his FIA super licence, which will take him up to 7 of 12 allowed for the rolling 12-month period.
