Jos Verstappen counting on friction between Max and Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are set for a long and hard battle this season. So far things have been calm on the track, but Jos Verstappen thinks that could change.

Jos Verstappen believes that while the racing between son Max and Lewis Hamilton has been clean so far on track, he wouldn't be surprised if the intensity is ramped up in the future as the two battle it out for the title. The two championship rivals have split the opening two races, with the Mercedes star coming out on top in Bahrain and Max taking victory in Italy. So far the two have managed to stay out of each other's way while on track, but Jos thinks the first signs of a possible coming together were seen in Imola. "You don't know how it will go, but if I look at the shoulder thrust they gave each other after qualifying at Imola, I think we can expect something this year", Jos told Jack van Gelder via Instagram. "They are both men who do not want to be inferior to each other. Neither of them will let the other push them aside, especially if it will be more and more about the title. I think it's going to be an intense and beautiful year." As far as predicting how the 2021 season will play out, Jos believes Red Bull and Mercedes will swap who has the advantage based on the track. He's just happy the Milton Keynes outfit can fight for victory at every circuit. "Toto Wolff keeps saying that Red Bull is the best team, while Christian Horner gives Mercedes the favorite role," Verstappen added. "But ultimately we are better at one circuit and Mercedes is better at another. "The fact that we can win every race in theory gives peace of mind, but also brings more pressure."
