The Japanese Grand Prix has been red-flagged on the opening lap of the race following a collision between Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon.
The duo came together as they approached Turn 3, with the field compacted together as they battled for positions at the start.
Albon made a strong start and was on the right-hand side of Ricciardo's car as they hurdled through the opening sector.
Ricciardo moved over to take the racing line into Turn 3 but with Albon at his side, contact was made which resulted in a trip to the barrier for both drivers.
Both Ricciardo and Albon were able to jump out of the car unaided.
The red flag was called due to the damage to the barriers, which must be repaired before the cars can safely circulate again.
For the restart, Race Control will use the order from Sector 1 to form the grid, with a standing start being utilised.
