The first free practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix weekend was hit with a red flag halfway through the outing following a crash for Logan Sargeant.
Sargeant ran wide through the sweeping Turn 7 and dipped a wheel onto the grass, which pulled his car wide and into the barrier.
The car suffered a fairly sizeable hit with the wall and eliminated the American driver from the session.
It marks the second heavy crash for Williams in two race weekends after Alex Albon's impact in Albert Park last time out.
Sargeant is driving the repaired chassis that was sidelined in Australia.
Albon's crash resulted in Sargeant's withdrawal from the weekend in Melbourne after Williams opted to give Albon his car.
Williams is not expected to arrive at an event with a spare chassis until the Miami Grand Prix.
