Jaguar has officially unveiled its Gen4 development car ahead of next Wednesday's public test at the Circuit Paul Ricard and has also simulated a major step forward for Formula E.
Named the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE, the car will be officially unveiled at next week's Gen4 launch event in a striking test livery to be used during the public running.
The mostly black test livery depicts simulated speed data traces around the Circuit de Monaco for each generation of Formula E car, illustrating the major step made by the series.
To create the simulated speed data traces, Jaguar used its state-of-the-art driver-in-the-loop simulator.
Based on Jaguar's simulations, the Gen4 car will exit the iconic Monaco tunnel and hit the brakes prior to entering the Nouvelle chicane at 277 km/h (172 mph), 30 km/h quicker than the current Gen3 Evo and almost 80 km/h faster than the Gen1.
The data highlights the staggering leap in performance set to be made by the championship with Gen4, a car capable of producing 600 kW of power, equivalent to 815+ bhp.
Despite continuing to use grooved tyres, the simulated speed of the Gen4 as the brakes are applied for the Nouvelle chicane is in a similar ballpark to an F1 car, within 10 km/h.
For Gen4, the scope of what manufacturers are responsible for producing and integrating into the car has increased, with Jaguar having built its own motor, inverter, gearbox, rear suspension, active rear differential, cooling system, driveshafts, electrical harnesses, software, and front and rear brake-by-wire and DC/DC converter systems.
It represents a major step in performance and technology, with next week's test being the first not to be held in private.
"We’re excited to unveil the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE as we continue our preparations for this exciting new era of Formula E," said Ian James, Jaguar team principal.
"Our unique testing livery not only reflects Jaguar TCS Racing’s time competing in Formula E, but the huge technological and performance evolution through ten years of racing.
"Formula E is the perfect platform to enable Jaguar to be at the forefront of EV technology innovation, and GEN4 represents another step-change for the championship.
"The raw speed of these all-electric cars is incredible, and we cannot wait to showcase the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE on track."
