The start of the Italian Grand Prix was delayed for several minutes after Yuki Tsunoda suffered a car failure on the formation lap. Tsunoda, who was due to start in 11th, pulled over to the side of the track on the back straight prior to the final corner. The original start was then aborted and the remaining 19 cars in the race, led by pole-sitter Carlos Sainz, toured the Monza track for another formation lap. However, the marshalls had difficulty getting the car clear of the circuit, as it was reported to be stuck in gear. The AT03 was still at the side of the track when the field was ending the extra formation lap, which saw Race Control opt to delay the start of the grand prix, with the start taking place 20 minutes after its original time slot.
