Italian government calls for Imola GP to be postponed

Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, has called for the focus to be on rescue efforts as heavy rain and floods affect the Emilia-Romagna region.

Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has called for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to be postponed, amid heavy rainfall and ongoing floods in the area. The race is under threat of cancellation due to the poor weather conditions that have led to F1 personnel being told to stay away from the circuit today , and wreaked havoc on the local infrastructure. A decision on whether to continue with the race is expected to be reached later on Wednesday, as talks continue between F1, the promoters and local authorities. However, calls for the race weekend to be cancelled and postponed have already started to emerge from the Italian government as they look to focus on rescue efforts as the death toll in the area rises. According to Sky Italy , Salvini "considers it appropriate to postpone the Imola Grand Prix, on the agenda over the weekend, in light of the bad weather emergency that is plaguing Emilia Romagna. "Also in the light of direct contacts between the minister, the institutions and associations involved. "Let's dedicate ourselves to the rescue."
