The IndyCar Series has unveiled its new car, which will be used starting from the 2028 season.

The series has a clear goal with the design of the new cars: racing should be faster and better, but above all, safer. The plan is for drivers to be able to break track records with this car.

To achieve those goals, various details were carefully examined. For example, the new car will be significantly lighter (100 pounds, or about 45 kilograms lighter), will feature a new design for the front and rear wings, and is specifically engineered to optimise overtaking opportunities.

It was previously announced that the new cars for 2028 will be powered by a 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 internal combustion engine capable of delivering up to 760hp.

Honda and Chevrolet will continue to be involved as engine suppliers.

The aeroscreen is also lighter, sleeker, and more aerodynamic - features that also enhance safety.

Finally, the new cars will be equipped with electronically controlled anti-roll bars, also with safety in mind.

The car will undergo testing in the coming months before it is introduced starting in the 2028 season.

“We are pleased to unveil renderings of the new NTT INDYCAR SERIES chassis that will take our sport into an exciting new era,” said IndyCar President J. Douglas Boles said.

“As you can imagine, a project of this magnitude takes an incredible amount of planning, collaboration and execution.

“I would like to thank all of our partners including Dallara, Chevrolet, Honda, Firestone and Shell, who have worked tirelessly to create a package that will enhance INDYCAR’s already incredible competition and industry-leading growth.
