There is no bad blood between Cadillac and Pato O'Ward, but there is clear daylight between his chances of filling one of the blank spaces in its driver line-up.

IndyCar star Pato O'Ward has made a quip referencing a supposed love story between Taylor Swift and Fernando Alonso about his Cadillac F1 chances.

Back in early 2023, unsubstantiated rumours emerged linking Alonso with a relationship with Swift, with the Aston Martin driver.

Alonso did make some social media videos at the time with Swift songs in the background, but he proved to be the anti-hero after all but quashing the delicate rumours.

Cadillac is yet to fill either of its blank spaces for its driver line-up for 2026, with a number of drivers linked, including Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, and Mick Schumacher.

Addressing the possibility of being a candidate himself, O'Ward indicated that the speculation needs to calm down and be shaken off.

"The rumours about me going to Cadillac were like the rumours about Fernando Alonso hanging out with Taylor Swift," the McLaren driver simply told ESPN Mexico.

Elsewhere, O'Ward, who is scheduled to drive for McLaren in FP1 in October's Mexico City GP addressed Sergio Perez's chances of getting back together with an F1 team following his Red Bull axe.

"I think his departure from Formula 1 wasn't what he wanted," observed O'Ward.

"If he chooses not to return, he'll still be an idol. If he chooses to return, he'll still be an idol. I don't think much changes there.

"But I've already seen him training, and he wouldn't be training if he wasn't coming back."
