Nico Hulkenberg triggered a red flag in Dutch Grand Prix first practice at Zandvoort after crashing on the approach to the banked final corner.

The Haas driver lost control of his VF-23 at Turn 13, and spun off into the gravel, damaging the new front-wing the team has brought to the weekend.

Team boss Guenther Steiner admitted that the team only had one more example of the new design, but fortunately, the damage was minimal, with the right-hand side endplate only being damaged.

Hulkenberg was on the Soft tyres, and had clocked the 15th fastest time before the incident, with teammate Kevin Magnussen in eighth, also on the Soft tyres.

The red flag halted a Soft tyre run for Lewis Hamilton, with the Mercedes driver going purple in sector 1 before the session was halted.

The session resumed with 11 minutes remaining following the brief delay.
