Hulkenberg: Mercedes have something up their sleeve

The former F1 driver believes the title race between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is far from over.

Nico Hulkenberg feels that Mercedes cannot be written off despite Red Bull's recent dominance which has pulled them clear of the defending champions in both the Drivers' and Constructors' Standings. Valtteri Bottas is yet to win a race in 2021 whilst Lewis Hamilton has not been victorious since the Spanish GP at the beginning of May. "It's very simple," Hulkenberg told RTL. "Red Bull currently has the fastest car. The roles have been reversed compared to previous years. "Red Bull has lost less time during the winter due to the rule changes than Mercedes. That's why they're ahead of them now. "It's not over yet. I definitely wouldn't write Mercedes off yet. They still have something up their sleeve, especially in terms of the updates and improvements to their car." Hulkenberg is good friends with Max Verstappen and thinks that this year will be the first of many seasons where the Dutchman will be a title contender. "Max will fight for many Formula 1 world titles during his career," said Hulkenberg. "At the moment he is surfing a nice wave of success, he is super confident and confident in his car too."
