Horner outlines what Red Bull must do in order to beat Mercedes

With talk of a potential World Championship fight between Red Bull and Mercedes, Christian Horner has revealed what the Austrian outfit must accomplish to take the fight to the German team.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner remains cautious about his expectations for the 2021 F1 season saying that the team must be the best version of themselves if they are to dethrone Mercedes. Red Bull represent the grid's best hope of ending Mercedes' stranglehold on the Formula 1 championships. The Austrian team finished second in last year's constructor's championship and ended the 2020 F1 season strongly with a commanding win in Abu Dhabi. Despite their season-ending form, their team principal Christian Horner is realistic about the team's expectations for the coming year. "We have to be sharp we have to be on the top of our game in every area to beat a team like Mercedes," Horner told RacingNews365.com among others. "So I think treating each race individually we have to be competitive and we have to be reliable." "I think we're the most consistent team over their (Mercedes) most dominant period. We've been able to win races but now we have to take the next step and take a sterner challenge to them. "The target is to challenge and ultimately try and beat Mercedes. You have to take each race individually and so, focusing on an amount of wins is very difficult to predict." With Honda set to pull out of the sport at the end of 2021, the Japanese car brand will be keen to end things on a high, if the combination of car, engine, and driver can work together then there is no reason why the team can't pose a challenge to Mercedes more frequently at very least in 2021.
