Horner reveals serious problem hurting Red Bull

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has revealed that its an "aero problem" which is seriously hurting the outfit's performances. 

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had to settle for sixth and eighth in the Italian Grand Prix, and were comfortably adrift of Ferrari and McLaren. 

The Milton Keynes-based outfit opted for an alternative strategy which saw both of its drivers start on the hard compound. 

It saw Red Bull look dangerous in the early stages, although poor graining quickly ended any hope of a surprise podium. 

In the end, even the alternative strategy resulted in Red Bull finishing where they expected. 

"It worked to a degree," Horner told Viaplay. "But then we started to get graining ourselves, so the issues that we had yesterday were there in the race again today. 

"So I thought that Max did a good job, got everything he could out of it to get P6. 

"Checo, likewise, drove a good race today. So sixth and eighth was the maximum that we were going to get."

Red Bull issue

It has been another disappointing weekend for Red Bull, with its RB20 still suffering from an apparent problem. 

That problem, as revealed by Horner, appears to be aero-based, with the team working hard to find a fix for the issue.

"Obviously, it's a concern," insisted Horner. "So the whole team's working very hard on it. 

"It looks like it's an aero problem, and there needs to be an aero fix for it. The guys are working incredibly hard back at the factory to get on top of it. 

"I think, if nothing else, this weekend has really shown where some of our weaknesses are."

Following the Italian GP, Red Bull's lead in the constructors' championship has been cut by McLaren to just eight points, with eight races remaining. 

McLaren has caught Red Bull with ease over recent rounds, with Horner accepting that there is now very much a fight for the title.

"You look at the momentum over the last six, seven races, and it's swung very heavily in McLaren's way," said Horner. 

"And if we're going to defend the title, we need to stop that and stop it quickly. We don't give up on anything, and we'll fight all the way to the end. 

"It's now very much a fight, between now and the end of the year."
