Christian Horner reveals cause of rare Red Bull failure

Red Bull developed a problem that boss Christian Horner has 'never seen before' during the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Christian Horner has revealed the cause behind Red Bull's traffic-light failure during its Bahrain Grand Prix pit-stops.  In Sakhir, both Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda were delayed by the traffic-light system on the Red Bull gantry not going green despite all four tyres having been changed.  In the end, Red Bull had to resort to the chief mechanic manually releasing the cars as Verstappen laboured to sixth, whilst Tsunoda scored the first points of the second Red Bull car of the season, with a ninth-place finish.  Reflecting on the bizarre failure, Horner explained how he had never encountered such an issue. "We had a horrible day with what looks like a wiring loom issue in the pit gantry, which caused the problems with the traffic lights," Horner told media including RacingNews365.  "It is certainly one that I've never seen before and the drivers live by those traffic lights, but the actual stops were pretty good, they were two seconds. "But then the drivers were waiting for the lights, and obviously it didn't go out, so everything has gone into quarantine and we'll have a good look at it.  "The first stop where Max came in, the light didn't [go out], and it is a very simple system so we expected that one of the buttons hadn't been pressed hard enough by the mechanic, but the next pit stop was within a minute. "Then it happened again and at that point, we went into a manual override system, and the chief mechanic released the cars."
