Horner pinpoints 'extra capacity' Verstappen

Max Verstappen won by over 22 seconds from teammate Sergio Perez at Spa. What makes him so dominant in the same car?

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner believes Max Verstappen has an "extra capacity" which enables him to outclass Sergio Perez. The Dutchman finished 22 seconds ahead of his teammate during the Belgian Grand Prix to take his eighth win in a row and 10th of the 2023 season. Despite some tricky moments when the rain hit, Verstappen stayed in control and even suggested to do some "pit stop practice" over the team radio so he could push in the final stint and set the fastest lap. The team unsurprisingly denied the request, but Horner believes it demonstrates how Verstappen thinks ahead during races he dominates.

Horner: Verstappen at the top of his form

"I think that like all the great drivers he just has that extra capacity," he told media, including RacingNews365 . "What we're witnessing and seeing with him at the moment is his ability to read the tyre, to read a race, to extract absolute everything out of it. "It's great to see. I think he's just at the top of his form at the moment."
