Hill: Hamilton doesn't like racing in Monaco

Sir Lewis Hamilton had a disappointing outing at the 2021 Monaco GP, losing the lead of the Drivers' Championship to title rival Max Verstappen after finishing seventh in the principality

After a disappointing result at the Monaco GP, Damon Hill has revealed he has his doubts about Lewis Hamilton's fondness for racing on the principality circuit. Hamilton was hamstrung by a poor qualifying session and a strategy call by Mercedes during the race which backfired and saw him exit the pits behind two more cars and eventually finish seventh, with the only silver lining being an extra championship point for fastest lap. "I think also drivers have day off, and I've never been completely convinced that Lewis likes Monaco," Hill said on the F1 Nation podcast. "There is something about Monaco that some drivers take to this track and they love it. Lando Norris, he loves driving that car, he loved going around Monaco, did a fantastic job and got every ounce out of that car like Max did. "But Lewis has always looked to me like he's not completely happy in Monaco." The race puts Mercedes on the back foot against Red Bull going into the race in Azerbaijan, with the former now leading both the Drivers' and the Constructors Championship.
