Head-turning design feature missing from Alfa Romeo C43 shakedown

Alfa Romeo became the first team to shakedown their 2023 car, but their C43 appeared to be missing a key feature from their launch car.

Following Alfa Romeo's head-turning car launch, where they became the first team release images which represented an evolved 2023 car, the Swiss team have taken part in a shakedown ahead of preseason testing. The renders of the C43 provided a high level of detail, with the new Alfa Romeo car standing out for its Red Bull-inspired sidepods and a series of protruding fins on the outer edge of the floor. On Alfa Romeo's striking floor design, RacingNews365's technical expert Paolo Filisetti commented at the time: "There's a noticeable change to the side edge of the floor, which is now characterised by a series of 9 vortex-generating profiles, which have the function of creating a sort of pneumatic seal to increase the efficiency of the underlying Venturi channels." However, in Alfa Romeo's released video of the C43 shakedown , the serrated-style floor design had disappeared, with the team choosing to use a floor with a simpler edge design. The floor that Alfa Romeo will use for the start of the new season will likely be seen in preseason testing, although it remains unclear if either of these designs are a 'decoy' floor, or if they are both genuine contenders to make it onto the C43.
