‘Hamilton will drive for Mercedes in 2021’

After months of speculation around whether seven-time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton will renew his contract with Mercedes for next season it seems the British driver will stay at the team despite persistent rumours of his departure and replacement by Williams’ George Russell.

The two parties are reportedly snagged on Hamilton’s demands for a pay rise and his insistence on signing another multi-year deal with the team as opposed to the one-year extension preferred by Mercedes. While Russell’s name has persistently been brought up as a replacement should the world champion not reach terms with his employers, Formula1News.co.uk reports that sources within the team say any suggestion he won’t be with the Silver Arrows next year are entirely untrue. With the eyes of the F1 world watching and the destination of the current champion at stake, there have been plenty of rumours about what could happen, but the publication says that any suggestion he won’t be driving alongside Valtteri Bottas next season are untrue.
