Hamilton opens up about struggling with mental health 'for a long time'

Lewis Hamilton has given an insight into how he has been feeling during what he described as a "tough year".

Lewis Hamilton has opened up about struggling with his mental health in recent times. The Mercedes driver shared a message with fans via Instagram Stories in which he wrote about the challenge of maintaining a positive outlook during a difficult year in the world. "It's been such a tough year already with everything that is happening around us," Hamilton said. "Hard some days to stay positive. I have struggled mentally and emotionally for a long time, to keep going is a [constant] effort but we have to keep fighting, we have so much to do and to achieve."

Hamilton reminds others they are "not alone"

Hamilton went on to remind his fans that it is okay to struggle in this way, and ended his statement on a positive note. "I'm writing to tell you it's okay to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and that we are gonna get through this!" the seven-time World Champion added. "A friend reminded me today. You are so powerful and you can do anything you put your mind to! We can do anything we put our mind to. "Let's remember to live in gratitude for another day to rise. Sending you love and light."
