Lewis Hamilton has taken responsibility for the Max Verstappen incident during Emilia Romagna Grand Prix practice.

During FP2 at Imola. Verstappen came across a slow Hamilton at Turns 5 and 6, and was forced to abort his lap to avoid the Mercedes.

Hamilton offered his hand in immediate apology as he would go onto finish in fourth, three places ahead of Verstappen who had a troubled day for Red Bull.

The Mercedes driver also drew criticism from Fernando Alonso for appearing to be slow from the exit of Tosa, but quickly apologised after a good session for Mercedes to his former title rival Verstappen.

"I was on a cool-down lap, I thought I was well clear," Hamilton said.

"And all of a sudden, he was right on me, but ultimately it was my mistake.

"I tried to apologise but he was too frustrated already."
