Hamilton not ready to label Red Bull as favourites

Mercedes have been the team to beat in Formula 1 since the start of the turbo hybrid era. The German outfit have struggled over the course of testing in Bahrain, but Lewis Hamilton isn't ready to anoint Red Bull as the favourites just yet.

Although Red Bull have had the most impressive performance over the course of testing, Mercedes man Lewis Hamilton isn't too focused on whether the Milton Keynes outfit are now the team to beat. Sergio Perez topped the timing sheet during Sunday's morning session with Max Verstappen taking top spot in the afternoon, capping off a standout day for Red Bull. While Mercedes recovered after a shaky start to their weekend on Friday, the W12 didn't look comfortable around the Bahrain International Circuit. Regardless, Hamilton isn't too focused on which team has the label of favourites at this point of the season. "They can be favourites if they want, I don't know if they're looking strong," Hamilton told RacingNews365.com and other members of the press. "I don't really focus on that kind of stuff. "I think they've had some really good running. Both their drivers have been looking quite strong. They're gonna be a different machine this year with a really good strong lineup of drivers and a really good car. "As you've seen they won the last race [of 2020]. You can only assume they're gonna be back there, if not at the front, at the first race and it's gonna be a great long battle with them through the year."
