Haas have decided to protest the provisional results of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix after the confusing finale to the Melbourne race.
Nico Hulkenberg ran in fourth place after the multi-car collisions at the final race restart, but the final red flags of the race denied the Haas driver the opportunity to retain the position.
If pre-red flag running order is somehow reinstated, the fourth-place finish may become a podium finish, as Sainz was ahead of the Haas driver when the red flags were shown.
With the red flags resetting the running order to final grid restart positions, Hulkenberg was sent back down to P8, which became P7 after Sainz's five-second time penalty.
The submitted protest means a team representative will visit the stewards at 19:30 local time to review the matter.
